Griffith Observatory
The Griffith Observatory is southern California’s gateway to the cosmos. Visitors may look through telescopes, explore exhibits, see live shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium, and enjoy spectacular views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign. Since the doors opened in 1935, Griffith Observatory has become the most-visited public observatory in the world.
-
This project is a complete rebranding of the Griffith Observatory that introduces a refined logo inspired by the Art Deco style of the building's original era. This revitalized identity honors the observatory’s legacy, ensuring that its history is beautifully reflected across all touchpoints, including apparel, event tickets, signage, and more.
-
The challenge was balancing the observatory's rich history with a modernized logo design that remains easily recognizable from a distance—something the previous logo struggled with.
-
The logo’s design draws inspiration from the building’s iconic domed shape, while the typeface and color palette were carefully chosen through extensive research of the Art Deco era in which the observatory was built.
